Bob and Joan O’Leary commissioned Nichols Architects, LLC to design the exterior renovation to their residence, located in on the Sakonnet river in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Constructed in the 1970’s, the 3,000 s.f. residence, was stripped to the sheathing on all four façades. Dewey Nichols, AIA transformed the dated “Suburban-Modern” house into a proud “Shingle style” home that proudly sits over the surrounding neighborhood.
Dewey Nichols, AIA worked closely with Joan O’Leary, to create a design that was reflective of her dreams to live in a shingle style home. Architecture and finishes enhance the turn of the century imagery while the plan was updated to accommodate the O’Leary’s lifestyle.
Exterior stone patios and trellises were added to develop the “Shingle Style” concept. Modern maintenance free materials were also incorporated to free the empty nesters of the burdens of home care.
