Lee and Amy Minter commissioned Dewey Nichols to design the addition of a second floor and breakfast room to their newly purchased brick bungalow in the rolling hills of New Kensington, Pennsylvania. The design goal for the gut renovation of the former 900 s.f. bungalow, was to rotate the front entrance 90 degrees to the former side porch and create a grand entrance. The design solution created a 30 feet high atrium facing a tall timber forest and a formal dining room and living room off to either side. Careful design consideration was given to natural “green” daylighting opportunities. The vehicular drive was modified to include a circle for passenger service at the front entrance.
