British Airway’s Air-mall Management commissioned Dewey Nichols to design the Cartoon Cinema Classics plush shop while with Burt Hill Kosar Rittelmann. The 500 s.f. kiosk/shop was one of a series of specialty shops in the new air-mall at Pittsburgh International Airport. The design goal was to create a playful image of film and cartoon theatre. A cornice modeled after film and a dramatic stage curtain at the back of the shop both attracted the eye of potential customers as well as featured plush and cartoon merchandise. Celestial ceilings, side billboard display cases and a check-out modeled after a theatre sales booth finished out the design concept.
